We are delighted to have signed a new Collective Agreement with the Zambia Sugar Industry and Allied Workers Union (ZUSIAW), the National Union of Plantation and Agricultural Workers (NUPAAW), and the Agriculture Technical and Professional Staff Union of Zambia (ATPTU) to improve conditions of service.

The Agreement, effective April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2027, includes a 12% wage increase and upward adjustments to employee allowances.

The signing ceremony, held at our Nakambala Estate in Mazabuka, was attended by our Managing Director, Mr. Oswald Magwenzi; Chairperson of the Bargaining Unit, Mr. Sitali Muyunda from the Zambia Federation of Employees; Mazabuka District Labour Officer, Mrs. Taziona Simunika; members of the Nakambala Leadership Team (NLT), union officials and other esteemed invited guests.

This year’s negotiations focused on balancing business sustainability amidst current economic challenges, prioritising employee welfare, and ensuring the long-term viability of the company.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Mr. Magwenzi said: “We are pleased with the outcome of these negotiations, which reflect our continued commitment to both the workforce and the sustainability of Zambia Sugar.”

“This Agreement represents a shared commitment to our future success, demonstrating that when we work together, we can achieve a balanced approach that benefits both our employees and the company, as a whole. It’s a reflection of the strong partnership between Zambia Sugar and its workers, which will drive us towards greater accomplishments in the coming years.”

Mr. Magwenzi further emphasised the invaluable contribution of the employees, adding: “We recognise the contribution of our employees, whose hard work and dedication are at the heart of our success. We believe that this Agreement will not only improve the livelihoods of our workers, but also strengthen the foundation for Zambia Sugar’s continued growth and competitiveness in the global market.”

Representatives from ZUSIAW, NUPAAW, and ATPTU expressed satisfaction with the terms of the new Agreement, hailing it as a significant step towards enhancing the well-being of workers within the sugar industry.

The Agreement represents a significant step in strengthening the relationship between Zambia Sugar and its employees, while addressing the company’s future needs.
